If you want to transfer your domain, including websites and e-mail addresses, to easyname without any downtime for your services, there is a certain sequence that should be followed:
1. Create an external domain
Create your domain, which is currently still with another provider, as an external domain at easyname.
To do this, go to your easyname control panel and click on [Domains] → [External domains] and follow the instructions given there. Important: You must select either the method with the subdomain or the text file, but not the variant with the name server change, otherwise you can take your website offline!
2. DNS entries
Now the current DNS entries of type “A”, “MX”, and if available “TXT” and “SRV” must be found out from the current provider and then reproduced in the easyname control panel under [Domains] → deinedomain.com “DNS”. Important: You only need to replicate the entries of type “A” and “MX” if the hosting and the mail service are to remain with the old provider.
3. Email addresses & mailboxes
If you have e-mail addresses with your current provider, these must now also be created with easyname.
First create a separate mailbox for each user by clicking on [Webhosting] and selecting the [Mailboxes] option.
Next, the mail addresses are created: In the control panel, go to [Domains] → deinedomain.com and select the “Email” option. You can now create the desired email addresses. This step also determines which email address should be sent to which mailbox.
4. Websites
If you want to migrate websites to easyname, the web data and, if available, databases must now be uploaded to easyname. You can upload the web data via FTP, for example, and import the database via phpMyAdmin.
Important: easyname cannot offer you any technical support for the migration of your websites. If in doubt, please contact an expert.
5. Domain transfer & name server migration
Now that all your services have been “copied” to easyname, you can start the transfer of your domain to easyname.
To do this, go to [Domains] → [Transfer domains] in your control panel.
If you have placed the desired domain transfer in the shopping cart, please leave the option “Configure domain(s) automatically (recommended)” activated. This will switch the name servers of your domain from the old provider to the easyname name servers. As you have already transferred all DNS settings from the old provider in step 2, this will not cause any interruption to your domain services.
The migration of your services to easyname is now complete!
